Nelson said he found Binns preaching near the Old Market to a large crowd.—The thoroughfare was completely blocked.—Mr Binns denied that any passenger had been obstructed.—The Bench dismissed the case, but advised defendant find a more suitable place for his service.

1902 Sunderland Echo 9 July, Weds., Regret to announce the death of Mr. Edward Binns at his residence 4 Summershill East, who was 74,a son of Mr. George Binns, a draper in High St East a hundred years ago. 51 years ago Mr. Edward Binns started as a grocer in High St. East and later moved further up the street. In 1896 he retired on the business being transferred to its present position in Fawcett St. All his spare time was devoted to christian work among the poor and for 40 years he was a regular visitor to the Infirmary, Workhouse ‏(teaching workhouse children)‏ and the Monkwearmouth Hospital. Also a regular visitor to the Barracks and the ships in the docks, and had been looked up to as a friend of the poor in the East End of the town.
An active member of the Bethesda Free Church for over 40 years. He leaves a widow and grown up family of nine, one of his daughters being a missionary in India. Internment at Bishopwearmouth Cemetery on Friday.
